Differences Between Digital and Natural Reality

During our residency in June 2024 (June 23–29), our collective, Media Foliage, came together to collaborate on new artistic approaches.

The focus was on exploring the difference between digital and natural reality and any similarities between them. To make this exploration tangible in a spatial and sensory way, we worked on an interactive installation. It begins by displaying images of nature, which gradually transform into a digital environment through human interaction.

As you approach the projection, the pixelated version of the image grows larger.

To develop the installation, we collected nature photographs by Conny Beißler and Lorenzo Gaspare Dugnani. We then used these images to create the interactive set using TouchDesigner. Learning the software and creating the interactive projection were among the tasks I carried out in collaboration with Simone Dal Pozzo.

The residency served as a foundation for our future projects and provided us with the space to learn new things and take a step closer to realizing our other project ideas.
